Nauti Knots

We are Zennor and Barnaby, and we founded Nauti Knots, a business that sells high-quality Dyneema soft shackles from our sailing boat Mowzer.

What is a soft shackle?

A soft shackle is a rope loop that can be opened and closed easily to allow objects to be secured to one another.  We make our shackles from D-Pro Dyneema® SK78, a high-performance composite material used in high-strength, low-weight applications.

Soft shackles have several advantages over conventional metal shackles as they are lightweight, do not rust or corrode, require no pins or tools, they float, and cannot hurt you if they hit you in the head!

Where can I use them?

Soft shackles can be used in any application where traditional metal shackles are used. They can be used to attach halyards, sheets, guys to poles, blocks to temporary or permanent locations, low-friction rings, dinghy davit attachments, and many other places on or off the boat. One of the places we use ours is to attach a tow line to our dinghy for tow foiling. We also use one of our shackles to attach our gennaker guys to the pole.

Why is the Nauti Knots Soft Shackle so good?

  1. The eye is easier to open than the traditional soft shackle design
  2. The eye only opens enough to fit the knot through
  3. A small force will close the eye easily and doesn’t need milking shut
  4. We mechanically tighten the diamond knot and leave long tails to eliminate pull-through
  5. We whip and heat cut the tails to prevent fraying of the end
